Why the Dream Clean is NOT a 'Shampoo'
Did you know?
Shampoo is a relatively new invention. It has only existed for about 60 years. How did people clean their hair before 1945 and has shampoo actually done more harm than good?
Shampoo is NOT the only or best way to clean hair. Hair products use more toxins and misleading marketing than all other personal care products. All shampoos, even the so-called 'natural' or ‘organic’ ones are based on poisonous high-pH surfactants artificially synthesized from coconut. These bubbly synthetics pass through the skin and strip the hair shaft, leaving it rough. Coating it in conditioner only conceals the damage.
A long awaited BREAKTHROUGH!
Rather than compete with a sea of deceptive ‘natural’ products, we turned our back on shampoo altogether, and so should you. In June ‘09, the Dream Clean became the first certified organic synthetic-free hair cleanser in the world.
Naturally low-pH and made entirely of organic whole fruits, clays, essential oils and herbs, it cleans, shines and rinses away without harming you or the environment.
- aloe vera
- Probably the most known and revered skin friend, aloe is known to deeply penetrate, soothe, purify, heal and protect the hair and scalp.
- soapnut berries
- Traditionally used throughout India and Sri Lanka for washing hair, silk and treating skin disorders, these berries contain anitoxidants including vitamin C and quercetin and are naturally rich in saponins that effectively dissolve oil and dirt.
- indian gooseberries
- Exceptionally rich in Vitamin C, they have incredible nourishing and conditioning properties when applied to skin or hair.
- volcanic clay
- This ancient clay formed from volcanic ash with centuries of use as a skin and hair cleanser. Richly endowed with nourishing trace minerals it removes toxins from skin and hair. This amazing material has recently been used to aid in the clean up of oil spills due to its remarkable oil absorbing properties.
Why Dream Clean is BETTER than Shampoo & Conditioner
As mentioned, regular shampoo & conditioner are not only made from synthetic chemicals which are hazardous to your health and the environment; they have a high pH which is damaging to your hair cuticle.
Your hair cuticle is a protective layer of overlapping scales tightly wrapped around your hair shaft. These scales seal the inner hair shaft preventing loss of nutrients. The quality of your hair cuticle determines the degree of smoothness and shine in your hair.
High pH surfactants cause these scales to open out (see this electron micrograph of damaged hair), exposing the hair shaft to the chemicals. This weakens the hair shaft, strips it of its natural oils and leaves it dull and frizzy. If you've ever used Shampoo on its own you've experienced dull frizzy knotty hair - not nice!
Conditioner does NOT solve the problem, it merely HIDES it by coating the hair with yet more chemicals that attempt to create a substitute for a naturally smooth hair cuticle.
The Dream Clean is a better, simpler, easier, more logical solution. It has an ideal pH which is slightly below neutral and it contains no synthetic chemicals and no highly processed ingredients. It cleans the hair while leaving the cuticle closed, undamaged and smooth.
Wet hair thoroughly, then apply the Dream Clean taking care to massge into scalp and hairline. It will not lather. For longer hair, apply a litte extra water to help move the product through hair. Leave for at least 3 minutes. The amla berries, aloe vera and ghassoul clay will start nourishing your hair and scalp while absorbing oil, dirt and toxins away from the surface of the hair. The longer you leave it on your hair the greater the effect. When you rinse it with water, saponins released from the ground soapnut berries will further remove oil and dirt leaving your hair clean, smooth and silky.
What About Products That Claim To Be Gentle and Pure?
March 2009: Cancer-Causing Chemicals Found in Baby Shampoos
"Our intention is not to alarm parents, but to inform parents that products that claim to be gentle and pure are contaminated with carcinogens said Stacy Malkan, a spokeswoman for the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics"
- the Washington Post, 13th March 2009
More than half of the baby shampoo, lotion and other infant care products analyzed by a health advocacy group, the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics, were found to contain trace amounts of chemicals that are believed to cause cancer. Some of the biggest names on the market, such as Johnson & Johnson Baby Shampoo and Baby Magic lotion, tested positive for 1,4-dioxane or formaldehyde, or both.
The chemicals, which the Environmental Protection Agency has characterized as probable carcinogens, are not intentionally added to the products, and are not listed among ingredients on labels. Instead, they are likely byproducts of the manufacturing process. Formaldehyde is created when other chemicals in the product break down over time, and 1,4-dioxane is formed when foaming agents are combined with ethylene oxide or similar petrochemicals.
The organization tested 48 baby bath products such as bubble bath and shampoo. Of those, 32 contained at least one of the chemicals, and 17 tested positive for both chemicals.
